The Romance of Problems

We all like to romanticize. No, not that type of romanticizing where we read Harlequin romance novel (and I use the word “novel” liberally here).

I mean the romanticizing of our business problems. We think that our problems are ours alone. No other business, political environment or culture is the same at any other organization.

So you’re just going to have to suffer through the daily chores of your business and the terrible processes you have. Right?

Wrong.

While every situation may be unique, and your problem is exactly like no other, it’s close enough to those that came before. There’s no reason to reinvent the wheel.

If you run a membership organization, you can learn from how others increased member retention. Or how a hospital prevented surgery infections.

Don’t reinvent the wheel. Make it faster. Just realize that not every problem is the same.
